A Good Deal?

Okay... here's the deal.... I found a '95 SHO for sale here.... Now mind you.. there are very few SHOs in Oklahoma. It's a '95 ATX with the green exterior(you all know what color i'm talkin about if you know SHOs), and 124k. I'm guessing that the person dumped the car because they didn't to deal with the 120k mile service. Okay.. I've given the car a quick one-over. Looks like it's in fairly good condition. The paint is still good. For the most part the interior is in good condition, if you don't notice the vent cover mission on the far right side on the dashboard, the left-hand cruise controls missing on the wheel and a small tear in the middle of the back seat. The I looked at the brakes, the discs looked a little rusted, but, replaceable, right? And,the exhaust tips were still in good shape. They're askin $3950 for it.. It's been sittin' the lot for a couple of months and I'm just waiting for my income tax returns to get enough money to put the money down on it w/ a co-sign from a parent. (I'm still in high school). Other than what I've said, the car looks like it's in awesome shape. How's the price sound to you guys? It's a, um... used dealer.. a little local place, ya know? Go for it when I get the money in a couple of months or not??? Wait for a test drive? What should I do?

Re: A Good Deal?

This car is going to maintenance. Go to www.taurusclub.com and look over things that are common with these cars.

Re: A Good Deal?

if they have had it sitting a while offer them 3000 point out the problems and the fact they + 120K maint will cost 600 and you can always go up maybe settle on 3450....or have them fix it and do the maint for 3900

I hate to say this, but I couldn't get that much for my 95 MTX which is in much better condition inside and out, has almost every part in the suspension replaced in the past two years, doesn't smoke, runs like a raped ape, shines like new, has some of the best mods available, has only 75k miles, and is desired more than the ATX's. Hell, when I bought it four years ago, it was completely stock, had only one fault (a crack in an arm-rest), and a stack of receipts an inch thick from a shop that specializes in SHO's. All Ford-spec parts, synthetic oil, etc, etc. I only paid $8k, and that was a high price at the time. Now, I'd be lucky to get $4k, and $3.5k would be more realistic. I see cars similar to your selling for $2k-$2.5k. I don't see any selling for $3k unless everything works and no damage. $3.5k better get you a set of receipts from an SVT or SHO specialist shop for everything from 60k services to cleaning bugs off the bumper with silk towels.
