Good deal or bad deal?

I found a 1987 RX-7 for sale...the engine has been rebuilt, and the interrior and exterrior portions of the car are in fair to good condition. The engine had its rebuild 3,500 miles ago, but the owners are experiencing it die out at low RPM and starting trouble when the engine is warm. The asking price is 800.00 Is this a good deal...and what is this probelm they are experiencing and will it be alot to repair?

Re: Good deal or bad deal?

the only thing that sounds really scary is the fact that it has trouble starting when it is warm. I would keep looking.

Re: Good deal or bad deal?

Hard warm starting could be a compression problem. If it were properly broken in, 3500 miles on a rebuild would have you a perfect engine. Sounds like it may not have been broken in correctly.

Thats exactly what i was thinking...compression...but i wasnt 100%. If its not compression it would be possible that the rebuild wansnt done proper...and thats not scary, its horrifying.

Re: Good deal or bad deal?

i'd get it. you're going to eventually put another motor in it anyway, and 800 isn't bad for any car. as long as there are no electrical problems or anything like that, i'd probably go for it and spring for the rebuild.

It's probably a good idea to but it, 800 is a good price even though it's a little messed up, you'd probably spen around 3500+ for a good one. Instead of spending the money on one that costs more money just buy it and fix it. The only thing I would be scared of is if you fix it you might still have problems afterward.

Re: Good deal or bad deal?

Do a compresion test on it it sounds like bad injectors. They are propabley leaking and flooding it out which is common on a rx-7. Also if you get it put a switch on the fuel pump so if it fluds out you can turn it off to clean out the motor.
