Mod Advice

Alright, well I have an 84` 5.0 HO and i'm wonderin what some 'bang for the buck' mods would be. I'm fairly mechanical, so explain things in detail - even thought i don't understand lift rate, etc.- As far as i know i got 3.73's and a 3 angle cut on the valves, does that come stock 84'? My exhaust is stock although i've NEVER seen the same exhaust i have, on another fox body. What would be the best combo of a carb, manifold, heads, cam, rollers rockers, exhaust and all that great stuff. Hell give me any suggestions you can.... Oh and some1 is sellin some gt40p heads, ported and polished, less than 1k miles on em for 600 - is that good? Thanks.

84 GT if stock still has the y-pipe single exhuast set-up. That's the first thing that needs to go!!! My first Mustang was an 83 GT which is the exact same car. I remember how sad that car was stock. So this first things I did was put Mac 13/4" full headers, 21/2" h-pipe, 21/2" cat-back. This exhuast set-up totally changed the car, it went from pathetic to sounding great and shooting down the 5.0FI Mustangs.

3.73 are not stock on that car. As far as intake, cam, etc.., what is best depends on what you want to do, rpm range etc.., So let us know what you have in mind.

My suggestion is to forget about the GT40 heads if your prepared to spend $600. Save an extra $400 and go with a twisted wedge or edelbrock head. You will gain from bigger valves, better flow and about 50lbs less weight.

If your looking for quick cheap horsepower try pulleys.

I used the Weiand Stealth intake with a Edelbrock Performer Carb on my 83 for a while. Not the highest HP set-up you could go with but the torque factor was killer on the street.

The names pretty much imply what he differences are. Shorty headers are just that headers that are short than what traditional headers are. Equi-distant shorties are shorty headers that each primary tube is the same length helping to create equal pressure in the piston chambers. Long tubes are really just the same type of header since the 60's they go from the heads and go all the way to the tranny unlike shorties which stop before that. Long tubes are usually equi-distant by design. Long tubes are the best for hp and torque then, equi-shorties, then shorties.
