how many quarts of oil does the 3.1 take?

just purchased a 2002 malibu and i am going to use ful syn mobil 1 5w30 for the life of the vehicle and i cannot seem to find any information on how many quarts of oil she takes.

Did you get an owner's manual with your car? If you did please read it. The manual gives you capacities on fluids, what types of fluids, and much more.

Your engine takes 4.5 quarts with filter.

strangely enough...that was the first place i looked. i've read the manual thrice over and it offers no answers in lieu of fluid capacities. thanks for the quick reply!

will the .5qt that i overfilled it with buy accident pose any immediate or long term harm to the engine?

1/2 quart won't have any harmfull longterm effects.
