That ws quite frankly one of the stupidest thing's i've ever seen. I only wish that it was a turbo and that it actaully exploded and a piece of engine went flying into the camera.
Any dumbass could have told you what was going to happen.. i dont see why they wasted a perfectly good car for retardation like that. I hope they dont expect to rebuild that engine, because it's completley toast. oh yeah... and that proves right there... ROTARY POWER!

exactly...
get over it... people do that kinda stuff all the time... if you have all the fluids in the car, you can sit at redline for a while, even in a piston powered car. it's just a matter of time before it pops. hmm... i bet you cried when jesse james started shooting the rx7 sandrail on monster garage too...

That motor would have lasted indefinetely if it actaully had fluids running through it like it should have. It wasn't the speed of the engine that was the problem, it's the fact that the waterpump was cavitating to all hell, and the engine was getting oil starved. It only broke because it overheated to the point that the housings had the hell warped out of them.
If there had been coolant flowing through, and proper oiling, then that engine would have stayed at 9000 RPM as long as there was gas in the tank. So yes, those guys are dumb and ruined a rebuildable engine. And started the car on fire.
