Question mass airflow screen removel

I have a 2000 rodeo 3.2ltr. I just installed an aftermarket air filter and the mass airflow senior has a screen over it. Has any one tried to remove it?

My camaro has 2 of these screens on the MAF and they were both removed a long time ago. They dont make that big of a flow increase though if all you do is remove the screen. Ive never had any trouble with particles ruining the sensor but personally I dont think its worth the trouble on the rodeo.
