This may sound irridesent, but THis war in Iraq is much like the Vietnam war, not in the sense that there is a full out attack, but how the remaning members of the Iraq regime are using gurrella attacks, much like the vietcong did back in the vietnam war, and bush is getting critized just like nixon did i think it is not worth the effort we did what we had to do, now it should be time to take our troops out

I think I'll have to agree with you; I honestly think we should quit saying we're going to hand over the country to the Iraqis and just do it already. We've toppled Saddam's empire, he is no longer in power, get some people to do the job of president of the country and get the hell out. Yes, I know, it's easier said than done, but I bet if the U.S. wanted to, we could be done by now and the lives being lost wouldnt even be coming into play right now. Unfortunately, the government doesnt go by the words of the common man.

I was just discussing this with my roomate no more than 10 minutes ago(deja vu). I think we should pull em out. Everyone wants us out of there, so fuck it, lets just pack up and leave and see what happens. If we did leave then everyone would start whinning and bitching b/c were not helping to rebuild Iraq. There's no way to win. So lets pack up our shit and see what chaos ensues.

The troops should not be taken out of Iraq until the new government is fully in place. Iraq is not ready to go off on its merry way yet. Even after they have a government formed, they are going to need help.

yeah, he was from fort drumm, its just dumb i got a d- on my term paper becasue the professor didnt agree that "this war is like vietnam" well it is, i think saddamm had the idea he KNEW he wouldnt win when we toppled the government but know, he is using gurrella tactics like the vietcong, but i guess my professor is bias

Your prof needs a swift kick in the balls. I hate when profs grade on their own views and not with an open mind. They should focus on the content, the way it was expressed and puntuation. Not if someone has a different view than them.

Unfortunately, I do not feel we should pull our troops. Why I feel we should have never gone there in the first place - we now have an obligation to rebuild their country (we destroyed it)
Take a look at how we handled Japan from 1945 to 1952. We modified their constitution, adding that they couldn't start a war, and the separation of religion and government. It wasn't perfect, the U.S. made a few choices that were more in our interests than in those of the Japanese, but overall the operation moved relatively smoothly.
We helped break it, now we should help fix it, but do so as quickly as possible, hopefully even faster than what happened in Japan.

The reason the US is not going to hold elections anytime soon, is that if they held fair elections, the Ayatollah Ali Husseini al-Sistani would win outright, and he's not a puppet of the US.

So instead, the US wants to install a temporary assembly that will elect a government that they can and will control.
