95 Grand Cherokee electrical problems

OK... here's the deal, when i open my doors, any of them, there is a fast clicking sound in my glove compartment. So, I discovered there are relays in there. I found the one that was clicking and ordered a replacement, thinking that the clicking sound meant i needed to change it. Well, the part came in, i plugged it in, SAME CLICKING! Top dome lights in the front of my jeep dont work when the doors are open, but when they are closed they blink very dimly, my computer at the bottom of the dash doesnt work, i took out my radio because when its plugged in, it blinks, security light comes on at random times, i cant lock my doors, if i turn on the air conditioner... no matter what temperature i put it on, it stays on the hottest and i cant turn the power up higher or lower. lets see... any other symptoms...oh yea, when i speed up while driving, the blink goes slower, when i slow down, the blinking is faster. I recently put in a new alternator and a new battery with 720 cold cranking amps, so thats not the problem. PLEASE HELP IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING... PLEASSSEEE

re: Jeep from hell

In your dome light housing, unplug alarm board(2" X 4") See if all other probs other than alarm clear. Use VOM meter and make sure you have power. If not, in the glovebox bottom, to the left of the relay center, there is a "Security Alarm Module" (SAM) Unplug it and see if other probs clear(other than alarm). If neither clear, check fuses 4,6,7, and 21. If they all check out, prob is Puter, ground, or other wiring.
Can you disarm with key? do you have remote? works?

To check all components on alarm system, do the following:

Another thing, If you want to test ALL your security alarm components, do the following:
>1. Turn key to acc, off, acc, off, acc, off. remove key. You are now in "diagnostic" mode.
>Each time you test a component of security system, horn will beep once if it works. Has to have at least 1 second between "events".
>Example, open door, should beep once, wait at least 1 second, close door, should beep once.
>Do all doors, tailgate, hood, should all beep once when you open and shut.
>Next, put key in each key lock cylinder(2 doors and tailgate) turning to "unlock", should beep, back to "lock", should beep again. Remember to wait 1 sec between each try. Anything that doesn't beep either is bad sendor, switch, or SAM relay or computer.
>Put key back in ign and turn to run, should hear 1 beep. This tells you computer recognizes ign switch, and all inputs and then takes you out of "diagnostic" mode.

Re: 95 Grand Cherokee electrical problems

Yeah same thing happened to me the night I bought my 93 JGC. Was nothing more than a fuse.

I have the same problem but all the fuses seem to be good. What fuse did you find bad? I took out every one and visually checked them. Could there be others somewhere?

Re: 95 Grand Cherokee electrical problems

Just thought I would pass this along, I just bought a Jeep that had the same problems and I took a multimeter to the fuses and the #8 fuse was bad. Put the spare in and everything seems to work now.

Thanks for punkska8 for posting my question in advance for me, and every one that responded to it!
