Aftermarket CD player

Hi,
I was told by my local electronics store that to install my Alpine CD player in my 03 Silverado it will cost about $150 as the 03's are completely different with their wiring system than all the previous years. They said the only stereo that will just plug into this is a factory CD player from the same year. Does anyone here know if this is the case?
thanks,
Cat

Re: Aftermarket CD player

Unless it hasnt yet been released to the public, you can get an adapter that just plugs into the factory wiring then you splice the wires from the cd player, to the wires on this plug, very simple as they are all color coded. You also have to get an antenna adapter, all GM vehicles need this for aftermarket recievers. Also depending on the size of the new unit, you might have to get an installation kit that makes it fit into the opening in the dash. Total cost for all 3 of these parts is...maybe $50 and you can install all of it yourself.

Thats what I have is a JVC. You can view these parts at www.crutchfield.com or your local circuit city or car audio dealer.

the 03 did change, anything previous from the factory won't plug in, as for aftermarket, there is not a switched twelve volt power lead at the deck. if you have onstar or bose you'll need an adapter for those too. A company called peripheral should have your adapter for you, and you'll still need an antenna adapter also. the parts can add up quick, so i could see where the 150 bucks would come into play, i posted this reply to the wrong radio question, oh well.
