Hi!
I have a 1989 buick century with the 3.3/v-6. When trying to retrieve trouble codes, the check engine light flashes about 3 blinks per second and does not quit. The code 12 does not appear at all. No readable codes, just the rapid blinking occurs. I am using a paper clip to connect the data link(white w/black sripe) to the computer ground(black w/white. With engine not running. The car is fully loaded with a Brand new battery. Thankyou for anything you can suggest. Rod |

Re: Flashing Check engine light, no codes!

BTW- On a Blazer, you have to turn the key over to run position (NOT start) to get the codes to flash. |

try Disconnecting batt for About 5 min. the put Key in connect batt, and tourn key to on not start. this should clear all existing codes and give you a fresh start. If that dosen't work take it to a "sun" mech.
Good Luck |

Re: Flashing Check engine light, no codes!
The code 12 expected during code retreival is there for two reasons... one is to let you know that all is well, except that it is not receiving a tach signal, which would be expected if the engine is not running. The second is to advise you that is appears to be getting a signal, though none exists. I would look into power and ground getting to the ECM. It is possible for the ECM to be the source of the problems. Ray
