HUD 99' fading in and out

The HUD on my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix fades in and out and sometimes completely dissappears. Anyone have any suggestions for a fix?

The HUD needs to be removed, and the photo cell needs to be soldered.

Re: Re: Re: HUD 99' fading in and out

I've noticed mine is super dim during the day, even all the way bright I can barely see it, but then at night, it's super bright, where I have to dim it almost all the way down. When I got the car, I could set the brightness where I could see it during the day, and then it was fine for day and night. Could mine be the solder joint too? Or do you think it's another problem?

Smile Thanks for the help

Thanks for responding so quickly! It was really starting to get irritating! Now that I have the HUD I can't live without it.

While we're on the subject on HUDs...
I have a 99 GTP. My HUD has a problem sometimes where part of the HUD will be faded out. It's usually the part that displays the radio station. The center part is there but as it you go out toward either the left or right (mostly the left/radio side) it fades out. Is this related to the photocell problem here? I hate to tear the whole HUD apart if it's not. TIA.

HUD Dim

I followed that link at the top, read all 3 pages of replys, and am proud to say "IT WORKS NOW"

Mine was dim during the day and completely dark at night. Now it is as bright as it was when new during the day , and slightly dimmer at night.

Congrats to all of the people who posted replys and telling us how to do it.

Jimmbo :-)

Yep, mine is fixed now too. And it has always been 2 mph faster than the speedo.

Yes that is completely normal. The HUD will read the proper speed, as it gets its data straight from the vehicle's computer.
