Stereo Fading in and out

I have a 2000 Prix and my front speakers keep fading in and out. Is this a wiring problem? Coupled with this problem is my 'Mute' button doesn't always work. It does some time, but most of the time it just mutes for a second and comes back to sound. How can this be fixed? Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something I can fix or do I have to take it to a shop and pay out of my ---? Thanks in advance.

same thing going on with my '97. Sometimes it seems if you turn up the volume they start to work. I suspect wiring but don't feel like taking the door panels off (power windows, locks, etc) so I have been living with it. If I find anything out I will let you know

Re: Stereo Fading in and out

It's funny because I was going to update this yesterday afternoon stating I haven't had the problem lately. Wouldn't you know it, I started to have the problem again! ahhh. When I am referring to the Mute button, I'm referring to the button on my steering wheel, not the HU.
I figured out last night that if I hold in the Mute button (steering wheel), or the Play button (no CD in player) that all speakers work. When I let go of either buton, the front speakers pop out and only the back speakers work. I'm coming to the conclusion it is a loose wire in the steering wheel. That doesn't sound right thought. Any thoughts? Where can I find instructions on how to get to the steering wheel wires, without releasing my airbag? That would be bad. Thanks for all the help.
