95 Blazer Rusty Engine Block

I tried doing a search for this, but didn't come up with anything.

Has anyone heard of excessive corrosion in the 95 Blazers' engine blocks?

It's already gotten so bad that I've lost two freeze-plugs (rusted through completely). Thankfully, they were the two on the front that were easy to get to. I'm waiting for the other six freeze-plugs to go, but I can't get to them without pulling the engine out.

While changing the two that have aready sprung leaks (and replacing them with brass plugs) I was able to see into the engine block a little, and there is a huge amount of rust in there.

Has anyone heard of this before? Anyone have any advice about what to do?

Thanks.
