Question data logger

When using a data logger... Is the palm pilot able to tune the engine or is it just a tool to monitor the car's systems? Do I then still have to buy an air fuel controller or is that part of the program? Is the program a mixture of both? Seems that the cam timing would have to be manual. Are there different types of data loggers that have different capabilities? Thanks

The term "logger" implies that it only gathers data. You still need a way to make the changes you see necessary after looking at the logs. Like an AFC, etc. All of the OBDII loggers for 2Gs are the same, aside from the interface. I prefer the pocketlogger. Something like DSMlink (or a standalone) combines a logger with tuning software. Timing cant be adjusted manually unless you have a 1g, or have converted to a 1g CAS (per the RRE pages), and even then, you are only adjusting base timing, and it has the same efect at all rpm ranges. DSMlink does it in the software, and you can make rpm based adjustments.

Hope that heps.

Unhappy

I have a 1g (92). You recommended TMO.com awhile ago. I do not want to run this on a laptop. I have an m100 palm pilot. Dsmlink seems to only be for a 2g. Is there anything else for my application that will also tune? Thanks

There is nothing for the 1g ECU that also lets you tune, unfortunately. Plenty of people have run 10s on an AFC and a pcketlogger or TMO setup In fact, for the 1g it makes sense to also do the MAF Translator early on, which is also a tuning tool. While not as slick as DSMlink, you can make some serious power. In fact, the friend I usually mention (chad from POSracing.net) put down 500 whp on this EXACT combo. Pocketlogger, AFC, and MAFt. Worth looking into at least, before people go looking for standalones or 2g ECU conversions.
