Good Car?

Hi,

When I go off to college after this year I will need a more reliable newer car (97-up). I was thinking of getting a Domestic this time.
I really want a V8 but im worried about insurance. I was looking at a 2000 Mustang GT for about $12,500. Now I will have to finance the car and I have always wanted a GT mustang. How much will insurance be on a car like that for an 18 year old male. I so far have a clean driving record with no tickets. (knock on wood )
Thanks

2002-04 cavalier with the ecotec motor. with manual it can getya goin 15-15.5 on stock motor. Add a turbo and its just as fast as that mustang gt and a hell of alot less insurance and and for less money and a hell of a lot more gas milage.

Man what is with you? Is Gm paying you to come on here and push Cavalier's? Everytime someone mentions getting a new car you keep saying Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it Cavalier and turbo it like a broken record, your like a crack dealer except you don't give up as easily.

Re: Good Car?

No im not a chevy dealer. I just like the cavaliers. Also you could get the 02-04 sunfires with the ecotec motor. They are the same car just different styling.

Thanks for the suggestions (I guess) I dont mind cavaliers actually the Z24's are pretty nice cars. But im looking toward at least a V6.

Now, I am going to ask a few questions im pretty sure I know the answers to, but I will ask just to make sure.

If I was to get a V6 Mustang or Camaro it will make a big difference in insurance instead of getting a V8 GT or Z28?

Also, when I turn 18 I can just head over to a car dealership and finance correct? I wont need any adults or anything, right?

I wont be doing this till maybe mid next year, hopefully when i graduate high school, and head off to college. But just in case, you guys got any tips for financing a pre-owened vehicle. I want a 98-up

Thanks

if you want reliablity why not buy another rice burner? lolz i mean there are plenty of japanese imports that car cheap to buy and can be made to be rocket with fairly little money. if i had $12K to spend, i would get a S13 240sx hatchback and build my KA and do full suspension and body work and run 12's and can stop on hte dime, and corner as well.

Re: Good Car?

Screw building your KA, I'd do an sr20det or rb25det swap. KAs blow up too easily with boost, unless you build them up like hell. And if your going to do that, why not just get an engine thats built to take it anyway? That would be a nice car, though.

Generally speaking, writing "Camaro" on any insurance form jacks your rate as it is generally assumed amongst insurance agencies that Camaro owners are more likely to do something ridiculously stupid than any other owners group.

Mustang, because of the large percentage of women owners, is less crippled by this insurance hike.

Either or, they're only particularly cheap out the door. Yes, there's a huge aftermarket and yes they're incredibly capable vehicles. But jeez are they a trip to insure. Of course, I'm one to talk. Layla (my MGB GT) isn't exactly a walk in the park. Thankfully I'm not exactly worried about that while she's off the road.

and what prove do you have of this you superstreet reader. a KA is actually more stronger internaly then a SR. the only weakness in that engine are the pistons becusae of its high 9.5:1 compression lets do a run down on both engines side by side.

SR and KA both have forged connecting rods. they are both the same strenght

the KA has a stronger forged crank shaft then the SR's forged Crank shaft

both the SR and KA have piston cooling oil squirters. which are usually designed for only turbo cars.

the KA has a infinitly stronger block then the SR. where the SR needs to be sleeved to take massive abuse. a stock KA cast iron block is known to handle over 600 whp.

the KA has .4 liter displacement over the 2.0 SR. which means a shit load more torque.

the KA running lower boost makes more power then a SR running higher boost. just by looking at my dyno numbers proves this. my KA running a tiny ass intercooler being tuned very conservatively actualy got up to 247 whp on the chassis dyno running only 9.5 psi. on a stock internal. that is a higher hp then any SR can ever put out on that small T25 or T28 turbo. in order for them to make the same power i'm making you need to do a turbo upgrade which adds another few grand over that 4000 dollar swap. so total your looking at 4000 for a the swap, atleast another 1000 for bolt ons, since you gotta start from scratch again cause all the mods for your KA is no long compatiable except for your exhuast, then you gotta get a turbo upgrade to make over 230whp. and remember this 230 hp is a tuned SR running a stock turbo at over 12psi with full bolt ons. and its still makign such a pathetic number. so total for a SR swap and turbo upgrade and bolt ons, your looking at 7000 for the whole motor. jesus christ. i make waaay more power then that if i wanted to lean things out alittle and i've only spent 3K on my turbo set up running a small ass intercooler. and i've turboed my stock KA for over 6 months and over 10K miles with no problem to the motor. there are plenty of people running stock bottom end KA's with more then 250whp runnign even less boost them me. with only 8 psi tuned perfect it can make over 250whp. try doin that with any SR. and there is a guy on 240sxforums.com that has a daily driven KA making 350whp on a stock bottom end daily driven for over 2 years. granted he has a stand alone but do'nt underestimate the KA. and we can build our motors up for only like 2.5K and it can handle over 600 whp if tuned right.

bottome line: KA's 8 psi = to SR's 15+ psi. KA is actually a stronger motor once you change the pistons. and hte fastest 240 in the world is a KA powered 240 running a 10.8 which is DUY's and the next fastest 240 int eh world is JAY's which runs 11's on guess what? another KA running hte same turbo i got a T04B. and look at my tq number compare that to a SR's torque number.

KA SR
