I did this today

Never heard of a MK2 with the motor... but that is okay since they weigh about as much as the Caddy

Re: Northstar V8 powered 1987 Toyota MR2 - Follow along

um... the Northstar weighs the same as a 3sgte. and we all know what Denos MK1.5 can do!
But mine has over 300 ft pounds of torque. And I just found some cams that move me upto 400 hp and 400 pounds ft of torque. In a 1900 pound car that should move pretty fast... don't you think?
Find me a firearrow that has that kind of power to weight ratio....

Re: Northstar V8 powered 1987 Toyota MR2 - Follow along

where did you see this cuz the Lexus/Toyota V8 is too long and I wiuld also like to know what transaxle he used...
Tell me it was I and I have enough contacts that we can find this car pretty quick. That would be cool. Now I know that there was a LeMans tube frame SW20 with a V8. But that is the only known one.

tina on the pennock boards has a 383 stroker in her fiero putting about 500 HP/TQ to the wheels, and a 200 shot of nitrous on top of it.. i've also owned fieros since i was 18 (i'm 25 now). they're not bad cars adn they have a lot of potential, they just don't have the potential that the MR2 has...

i'd still rather have a N* MKI

well... if it were really down to custom stuff, i'd rather have a lotus seven replica with a turbocharged hayabusa motorcycle engine in it, but those are just dreams for now...

Re: Northstar V8 powered 1987 Toyota MR2 - Follow along

Yeah I was all crazy about building a seven haha.. lots of info/groups/forums/book/etc... but... honestly wtf.. its really only good for track.. i'd want to build something thats a daily driver and I hate convertibles/open roofs/etc.. i want some hardtop type of deal going haha...

So I turned to MR2 community Initially thinking hmm mr2 would be nice car to buy toy with and then use as donor for a seven replica.. but screw it I'm just gona stick mr2 mk1 when I get one haha. Although La Bala is doing a fine job on his mid-engined custom car using mr2 as donor.. but dunno.. i want a daily driver What also worries me is like.. hmm i dunno.. registering, insurance, things like that on a custom car.. too much hassle for a college guy o_o;

well I am an old guy of 41, no need to worry about insurence. I pay $100 a year for two new SUVs and 2 MR2s and a tow trailer.

So we have decided to use the Powertrain Control Solutions TCU.
http://www.powertraincontrolsolution...ducts/tcu.html

* Upshift/Downshift button capability

* Selectable shifting modes (ex. Power, towing, economy)

* Compact Dimensions (5.9in x 4.15in x 1.75in)

* Durable 63pin weather sealed circular plastic connector built into case

* All components specified for automotive conditions (125 degrees C with fuel, grease, and oil resistence).

* 6 PWM Driver outputs (Selectable 12v or ground output) (3amp)

* 6 Digital Driver outputs (Selectable 12v or ground output) (3amp)

* 4 frequency inputs (Engine Speed, TC Speed, Driveshaft speed, additional speed)

* RS 232, CAN (2.0b) communications

* 16 Digital Inputs

* 6 Analog Inputs

* 1 frequency output (speedometer control)

* Complete wiring harnesses available for common applications

* Custom wiring harnesses available for any application

* Easy to use windows software interface

* Data logging capability

Using this along with the Electromotive TEC3 engine controller I will be able to use traction control, and steering wheel shifting. I will be able to get at least 100% power from the engine in the MR2. No speed limiter.
I start wiring my TEC3 tonight.

Life is good now...

Re: Northstar V8 powered 1987 Toyota MR2 - Follow along

Sick :P By the way I'm gig from ontario mr2 and international mr2 forums.

By the way I remember you said one time that you and Bill Sherwood would update the 'upgrade route' for 4age, 4agze, 4age20v with more real life tests as opposed to theory

My goal is to start with 4age16 in na 2, then conver to 4agze then turbo But ah I dream.. hopefuly I will even GET my 2 in april... so excited yet.. also worried.. school/finance.. prob ;_;

As always I'm impressed with progress on v8.. I await the day it starts up and we see some videos of it on track

*sees the 2 fly off into the sunset* haha.. like that grey 2 of yours that literally flew and was on one wheel (sick..)
