Question where to start

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and I'm glad to see so many CV enthusiasts
I am the proud owner of a 87 CV LTD! I wanted this car so bad I drove from NJ to OH to buy it!....(Glad I didn't get snippered... have you heard about this?)
Anyway now that I have it I'm not sure exactly where to start. I'm guessing the transmission as it occasionally slips when I initially put it into gear. I would like to make this CV smoke 90% percent of the cars on the road. Budget is a factor from one project to the next but the sky is the limit for the long term.
What suggestions are out there for replacing the tranny with something that will let me drop maybe a 460 into it later?? Want the most performance i can get but would also like to keep it automatic.
Also what things can I do immediately to boost my "baby's" current power?

Hope to hear from someone... or everyone soon!
