97 GT, flashing check engine light

I was leaving the Dr's office today and I noticed my car running a little funny, almost with a shake, I didnt pay too much attention. Then I noticed it some more and then my check engine light was flashing. I pulled over, turned the car off sat there for a moment and then restarted it, the check engine light was still on, so I drove home, and right before I got home it flashed again but I didnt noticed the shaking feeling.

It is pretty cold here today, and probably the first really cold day of the year, not sure at all if that would contribute to this.

I am so clueless when it comes to cars. What should I do about this, what could the possibilities be with the problem?

TIA!

Sheri

your vehicle was misfiring so the check engine light flashes to let you know. take it to a shop and have the car scanned to find the fault. if you continue to drive with a misfiring engine you can damage some pretty expensive components.

Re: 97 GT, flashing check engine light

Thanks so much for the info.

Stupid question to follow up on, but I have to drive to work tomorrow (10miles each way hwy driving) I have no other options for that...is this going to be harmful??

I really hope this doesnt end up being expensive.

TIA!

you should be ok to drive to work and it might not even act up the light will stay on though.make sure you take a cell phone just in case.and be sure to have it looked at. i've had customers dive from virginia to philadelphia with a misfiring engine just to get to my dealer. pretty stupid.

Thank you again for your response.

This couldnt come at a better time

I am going to call around today and see how much the average is around here to get hooked up and scanned, I am thinking it starts at around $60 or so, and then to figure out what is wrong.

Any idea what the range could be of what would be wrong and how much it might cost?

I am hoping that it is just spark plugs that need to be replaced, but thats probably not my luck to have it that easy.

I drove to work this morning, I let it warm up for a good 5 minutes or so in the morning, the light flashed a few times at me but only within the first few minutes of actually driving and then the next 15 minutes to work it never flashed or the car never acted odd, so that made me feel a little more safe.

Thanks again.

Sheri

$60.00 sounds about right depending on what part of the us you live in to give you an internet diagnosis is almost impossible depending on the miles on the vehicle. it could be as simple as an injector clean to a major tune up. i'm glad i could be of assistance and please beware of pepboys i recommend the dealer not because i work at one but because the gm tech's are specially trained on you're vehicle everyone always afraid of the dealer but you get what you pay for. pepboys autozone etc. are all fresh out of school.do you really want them working on your'e $20'0000.00 car?

Re: 97 GT, flashing check engine light

Thanks again! I really appreciate it all again!

I brought my car in yesterday! I am very happy now!

It was just the fuel lines were clogged he said. So they did something with the Fuel Line Injectors? Either way its fixed!! Do you know what I can do for in the future to prevent this from happening? Or is this something that will eventually just happen?

It seems as if my car starts better too, but that could just be me thinking it is starting better It always started kind of hard and now it sounds much better.

They also resealed my back tire that was leaking air, and fixed my left front blinker bulb and everything came to $155 including labor and parts, which I am soo happy about. Just glad that everything is good.
