87 F-150 Oil Pan

I have a 1987 Ford F-150 4 x 4 with a 351W. Do I need to disconnect the engine from the motor mounts to replace the oil pan?

Thanks

oil pan

Well Chickenhawk, I just went through that.Thats the best way. If your truck is a 4X4 it's the only way. If your's has a crossover exhaust pipe and your truck is in about the same condition as my 89' you'll be better off doing the job from a lift because it's easier to cut the pipe on the pasenger side and remove the drivers side giving free access to the pan for removal after you jack up the engine. afterwards you'll have to weld it back. Also, the oil pump can be accessed this way ( it's probably going to have to come off and it's a good idea to replace it while it's down).Once you get the pan off and the old gasket removed, glue the new gasket to the bottom of the block, not to the pan as you will probably knock it off if you glue it to the pan. If you do replace the pump, make sure that you turn the motor over with the coil wire unhooked for about a minute to prime the pump after you fill it up to prevent dry running. Hope this helps and let us know how things turn out.
