Performance Options
I just had a quick question about some performance stuff that I hope SOMEONE can help me with. I own a 97 Grand Prix GT, non-supercharged. I thought about buying a supercharger super cheap from a friend who's mom totalled her Regal GS, but the engines still good. But just recently i was reading an article in Hot Rod magazine, and it sounds like a TO4 Turocharger would work...is it possible? I've searched everywhere and was hoping someone was crazy enough to make there GP insane with a total of 550-700 horespower. I was hoping someone had an answer for this...i really dont want to be disapointed by just getting a super charger, even then i heard that the supercharged engines are borred out a little more and have better cams on em to hold the extra power? i'm not sure what's true and what's not, can anyone help?

Well if you do get the supercharger just get the entire engine and tranny, axles, PCM and wiring harness from the regal and drop that into your car.
Some guys in OK are going to be releasing a turbo kit soon i guess. Another option would be a NOVI 1000 or NOVI 2000 kit from http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/pro...gal_sc_kit.htm Also, you cannot simply place a GTP supercharger onto the GT's/SE's. So cheapest thing would be to swap motors with your buddies mom's regal Tim |

there's work, and then theres to much work. I thought about doing an L67 Swap, but then i realized that i'm only 18, and i don't have the money or the space sadly, looks like i'm prolly just modding the L36 for now...we'll see though, i got till spring of next year to make my decision...i'm letting winter get out of the way before i start any performance stuff.

The only thing that I had to bring over from the old engine was the oilpan because mine had a low oil sensor and the intake manifold to be able to install the SC. (THe crate engine came with reinforced piston arms, but, because I requested it). The guy that sold me the engine said that the same block, cranckshaft and heads comes for the GT or GTP. What makes the difference is the ECU(a.k.a PCM) and the intake manifold wich I had from the busted engine to fit the SC. SO i installed on the new engine the oil pan, the intake manifold and installed the SC. That is enginewise. The bigger problem would be to have DIC installed on your dash. The DIC has a boost indicator among other things that the non SC car might not have. That would be the hard part because you would have to install the wiring to install the SC DIC. If you do not mind not installing the SC DIC then you should be fine as long as you get the PCM and intake manifold to install the SC. BUt as rpin12 said. If your friends car is available get the whole engine with the SC. I am just telling you what I learned from my experience. |
