1.9L performance?

Hey everyone, i'm new here, i own a 1987 mercury lynx with a 1988 throttle body escort engine. I got a couple questions... Does anyone here know of any performance parts to fit a 1988 1.9L throttle body injection? and, is it possible, and if so, how hard would it be to take the multi port fuel injection unit (intake manifold, wiring, computer, etc) onto my stock base model engine?? hope to hear from you soon.

The conversion is a PiTA. You need to swap the whole engine harness, the EEC-IV PCM, the entire block (if you really want to get some numbers out of it, mind you - can't just swap the head without changing pistons even.), and play with it. A lot. I'd save your time and money and get a stock EFI car.

roight but can any body tell me a good place other than cork sport that has perfofmance parts for 1.9L blocks? ( prefrebly somewhere in the states ) at this point im getting desperate I'LL BE PISSED IF I HAVE TO START OVER WITH A CIVIC!!!!!

I have an escort and it had a 1.9l engine and i took that out and put in a 2.3l engine out of a mercury topaz and that made it quicker but then i ordered a cosworth head from england and now my escort puts out about 300 some odds horse. when i had my 1.9l i couldnt find any performance except for the fuel i put in. i put premium fuel in with octane booster. but not much 1.9l performance.

Umm yeah. The old 2.3 Tempo motor is a push rod motor, and the cosworth head is a DOHC. So your trying to say you put the cosworth head on a 2.3 HSC block? Sure, and Monkeys fly out of my butt.

Lets see some pic's of this 300hp tempo/cosworth motor?

for 1.9l performance parts you might want to check out andysautosport.com or scorpion performance, scorpion is alot cheaper and the parts look good.

I have tuned my scort and found that the two best improvements came from air flow (intake and exaust) and any electrical.

Performance for ANY escort for the cheap man as follows......Get a GT head/intake assembly, new fuel pump for the car, Have the head shaved to up compression...max for a 1.9 is 250 psi, get a copper head gasket (I know they're sold), better computer (I'd got with a 92 to 94 tempo/topaz computer since they have a maf sensor and measure in realtime, not against a concrete "table" of measurements like older models), Make sure if it's 1st gen to get 1990 or newer head, due to the roller cam, which will increase power. Strip off A/C, and get a manual rack for steering. Have a GT pipe header with no cat behind it, and get a better clutch because you will need it.

You would have to shave a lot off of the GT head to get any thing above 8:1 with a CFI block.

for whoever it was that said all they could do for performance was fuel... higher octane fuel does NOT make your car perform better, neither does octane booster. higher octane actually burns less easily than lower octane, enabling you to run a higher compression ratio, so the highest performing fuel for you engine is the lowest octane you can get

You wouldn't have to shave much off if the pistons were replaced with GT ones. If I'm right, the cfi and efi cranks were the same, but with different pistons. I could be wrong, but it would still make sense to do that. Besides, pistons aren't hard to replace.
