Engine code, casting & vin ID
I've been trying to find information on an engine that I will be selling soon. I have found three numbers. First # is on top of the block near the bell housing. #3970010. Second and third #'s are on the front of the block behind the alternator. They are V0706TDR and C8J182588. The first # is a casting number I think. I was told that the motor might be a 350 4-bolt main. The motor was running when I pulled it but was smoking. There were some paint pen markings on it which leads me to believe that it was a junk yard motor. I have not torn it down either and probably will not.
What motor do I have? What would be a fair price to ask? |

I have also found F278 behind right cylinder head. Is that the casting date? F for Flint & Febuary 1978?

Re: Engine code, casting & vin ID
early model 350 blocks go for a cheap tag in my area, bare blocks $50 for trunkey non smokeing engines may be as much as $300, yours would surely fall in the mid range somewhere.

Re: Engine code, casting & vin ID
Thanks for the reply. I have the motor for sale on ebay right now and have a $200 bid that has met my reserve price. I tried to contact the bidder to find out where he might live but did not get an answer. Hope he lives close to me. Shipping is gonna be unreal.
