Dome Light problems...

I have a '98 B4000. The problem is that the dome light, door ajar idiot light and warning sound don't work the way they should. the door ajar light stays on even when both doors are securely closed. the dome light sometimes doesn't come on when the door is opened....and more often than not, it won't go out when i park and lock it. the worst is when the dome light won't go off when i'm backing out of the driveway at night and it makes it impossible to see behind me. the light always goes off once i drive forward. all other times it's liable to do anything at any time. i've actually had to take out the fuse for the dome light because it would stay on for at least 45 minutes before i realized it was still on. any clues???

Re: Dome Light problems...

Every B series/ranger has this problem I think. Simple solution is to thoroughly spray the door latches with wd-40 while opening/closing doors. The switch(s) get gummed up and won't operate properly. Can be accessed by removing door panels but probably isn't neccessary. Lotsa luck

Re: Re: Dome Light problems...

Just to let anyone who has the dome light/door ajar idiot light problem. I found the answer on another site. WD-40 IS the solution. No need to remove door panels, etc. I sprayed into the latch area and all around. Overkill if anything. The problem went away immediately. It came back two weeks later so I sprayed again. That was almost 2 years ago. Never had the problem again.

Regards,
