'87 Civic swap questions

Hello all, a friend of mine bought an '87 Civic...what kind of engine can he swap into this car? I don't know much about Civics' so I apologize if this question is dumb. Thanks in advance

So a D16 or a B16 would fit? What would you recommend for an '87 Civic?

All b-series motors will work with a hasport motor mount kit and the D16a1 or ZC will also work.

You might find out if his Civic is a si. If so, then it should already be a fuel injected engine and swaping in another fuel injected engine will be much easier than going from carbed to FI. At least as far as the wiring goes anyway.

I'm getting ready to do a b18a swap in my 87 Civic Si and just to give you a heads up, it'll cost ya little to go with a b-series engine swap. Among other things you'll need:

I'm not so sure that the '87 stock transmission will work with all the B-series motors, so if you go this route, you may need a tranny also. Well... at least I've been told that I'll need to get a tranny for my application. I'm still kinda new to the Honda scene too, but these are a few things I've found out. Hope this helps.

if you look around you can usually finda local drive shaft maker who will do it for cheeper, at least by me there is a guy who does them and a buddy got a custom set for $60. it may not be the same everywhere but still worth a look

cvcc_wagon - Thanks for the post. It reminded me about another source I just found out about for custom axles. They're $319 here:

From what I understand, these may very well be the people that make the axles for Hasport, but not sure about that. And these are complete with CV boots and everything, just like the ones at Hasport. Hasport also offers just the axle shafts for $199 if you had everything else needed to put the units together yourself. Course I don't have the other stuff needed, know how, tools, or time to do all that... so I'm looking for complete units to make the whole swap go as smoothly as poss.

Just thought I'd throw that other source out there for the people who might not be able to find anyone locally to make them.

thats just it, there are usually people out there with the know how, i mean when i get a new cv for my 83 civic (which i have had to do twice last year) i get a rebuilt one fom the auto parts place and when i im done putting it in i give them my old one and they give me $50 back. smeone rebuilds them and chances are they are pretty local and there mane contract is with all the local auto parts places so often if they are cool they will build you a custom set for pretty cheep because its not many people do it. the one by me is in a biusness district and they work nomal buisness hours (9-5, ie not automotive industry hours) look around, even ask the local autoparts place where they get them rebuilt.
just a thought.
