Best motor to swap into a 4G? B16, B18, B20/vtec, ZC, D16?

What do you guys think is the best swap into a 4th gen and why? I'm curious because I find myself going crazy over deciding...Personally I change my mind daily over almost every motor...lol

I think like this...
B16A(jdm first gen)
Pros:160HP, VTEC, JDM, cable tranny, bolt in, most tunable honda motor, easily available
Cons: Passing emissions, everyone and their momma has it, AKA the "torqueless wonder"

B18(90-91 Teg LS)
Pros:Torquiest motor, cable tranny, more original, high tunability, can add VTEC (more respect)
Cons: Non-VTEC, usually high miles, Harder to find

B20/Vtec
Pros: Excellent HP and TQ numbers, VTEC, VERY original (mad props), Very Low miles, Hearing people say "B20 What?"
Cons: Not OBD0, Not a bolt-in application, Harder to find Bolt-ons, Price (for fabrication), Getting it to fit, finding parts

D16A6
Pros: Bolt-in, Easy to find, Cheap, Easily tunable, Light, Building a SOHC and beating a DOHC!
Cons: Slow, No torque, Usually high miles, Not much respect (unless its fast), stock motor, its not DOHC, Non-VTEC (it can be added with a Z6 head)

ZC
Pros: Decent HP, Easily available, JDM, DOHC, Light, Cheap, Nice gearing (tranny)
Cons: Passing Emissions, Usually high miles, Finding Bolt ons, Known for "blowing up"

So wut do u think and Y?

I know there are other motors out there like B18C1, C5, etc. but those are out of my range right now...

i voted for them all. Theres no right answer to this question. everyone has a different engine they want and reasons why its better.

I personally went with a z6 cause i wanted a lil more pep in my daily driven car.

I voted b20/vtec cause in a fourth gen it's the fastest of the listed motors....personally I am going to get a z6 or y8 cause of a very limited budget, but if cash wasnt an option b20/vtec would be quite nice to have

Ahh, the myths of b20/vtec. Most of what you listed is incorrect too.

Ah, yes.

bambam89lx - I seriously suggest you do a LOT of research. It seems like most of the stuff you listed as pros and cons are things that you've made your mind up on based upon things you've read on the internet. I'm not just saying this because I don't want to help, or the next person won't want to help.. Even if we do we can only give so many of our own opinions. (wich are all different)

Do a lot of reading around about these motors you're inquring about, don't just limit yourself to this board, and I personally wouldn't listen much to people who don't actually have the motors that thier giving you advice on. A lot of people on the internet say a lot of things about stuff they don't personally know a damn thing about.

I don't know what motor to pick. But what would be the best stock motor to boost?

i would choose the b18a or b18b, mainly because i come across these motors easily, they are always cheap, and they are a good base to start on. but if i had more money i would go with crv-tec anyday! more displacement is always good.

I voted for b20/vtec...its something you don't see as much as b16/b18. the d16a6 isn't a bad motor if you only have a d15b2 right now and want a step up from the old engine. It doesn't have as much power out of the box compared to like the b16 and others but can be built up.

i say b16a because i have one and i and i have no complaints yet. i went from a std hatch to an si w/a b16 and the difference is astounding. also i met a few kids while i was cruising around in sacramento who owned 4th gen hatches . one had a stock b20 non vtec in his and the other had a stock b18 in his. both had just come from sac intl. speedway and were saying they ran mid to high 15's. id say go b16a get some bolt ons then save for a... stroker kit!

Go B20Vtec

Seriously your opions are right on basicly ....

I mean any motor can be built to hell and back but for bang for $$ I lean twards the B20Vtec

B16B hahahah get on the list yo they arent that easy to find your more likely to find a b18c5 then a B16B

Now for the dopeist motor I have ever seen in a honda hatch any year gota be the damn top fule turbo type RR (turbo) that things does 189mph and pulls like a motor bike

the car with the b20 vtec in there with a b16 tranny would smoke the hell out of all those motors in the same type of car. b20/vtec pulls like a champ

Are you kidding me?! You have to be. Do you know what it costs to build a good reliable CRVTEC?

i hear its really hard and really expensive to crvtec, there is a yellow rex here that has that swap, and its fast, but its always parked, just a track car...
if its a daily driver and your on a budget id say get something else.
