Re: 400 in camaro
im sure it will, the pain in your azz may make it more than its worth though. the 400 if i am correct is the same external size as a 350, but im not sure about that, so it should be a bolt in swap. its the 454 that will be a monster to mess with, cuz thats a total overhaul and redesign of the car under the hood. including mounts, brackets, wiring, routing of accesories. and trying to get big block equipment to work with the stock equipment.

Re: 400 in camaro
The 350 and 400 are the same externally. The 400 is externally balanced, it takes its own balancer and flywheel. A stock block 400 w/flat top pistons, decent cam and a good set of heads (A.F.R.s) will be amazingly strong. So far, all of my car projects have had s.b.400s. I plan to eventually build another 400 to go into my C-4.
If you come across a 400, make sure you snag it, they are really getting scarce. If you have a Z-28, you might want to convert the LT-1 into a 383. The front mounted distributor and gear driven water pump seems to be a good design. To make the 400 work you will have to use a crank trigger/coil pack ignition--I can't remember the name of the company-- go to www.directignition.com --- there is no way a distributor will mount in the back of the intake---a carburetor will be too tall, the fuel injection will still hve to be used. As for the 454, it is too bulky and heavy. You can make a small block run just as good for half the price. ---TEX--- |
