Nikon CoolPix 5700
I use the 5700 CoolPix at my job. It's a very nice camera for taking pictures in studio. You can take very nice macros. But be carefull for the use on portrait, it's too long by taking pictures, you can't get the mouvment in bad light conditions (arround 1 sec. to take the picture)
This camera is very interesting for all the fonctions it have, you can do many things (except portraits...) It's up to you now, ask to make a try in several conditions.

Urraco, how would you rate the 5700 for general landscape/ outdoors/ fun in the sun pictures?
i.e not just macros etc thanks!

Personnaly, i have an Olympus C4000 (4 Mega pixels) and it was suffisant for a personal use at my opinion. It's good and easy to use. You can have it in your pocket. Don't forget that one important think for having a numerical camera compare to a traditional one if you're outside is to have a small camera. The 5700 is quit big and heavy, a traditional camera with several optics is more useful for my opinion and yo will have better quality photos. |

Yeah i'm using 5700!
it's a bit tricky to use esp under low light condition. but after you know how to use it, it take awesome pics (including macro) The only things i don't like are it's very poor low light autofocus (which is a traditional Nikon problem as you probably know) and small LCD screen so sometimes you don't know if the object is really well focused or not Do a search on some of my "finished project" posts for some sample pics. Not the best quality pics but at least you'll have some idea. |

I was reciently looking at one as an upgrade to my old camera. The 5700 does take good photos, and as most cameras in that range have, it has a good macro mode, but there was one shining light which lead me away from it. The Sony Cybershot DSC-F717. Lots of people bag Sony's cameras, but the F717 is in a completly different league than the rest of them. I've read a couple of online reviews, and talked to a few photographers, and ex professional photographers, and they lead me to the F717 above the 5700. It's focusing in low to no light conditions is very good (thanks to a little laser it sends out to give it something to focus onto). With manual focus you can get as close as 2cm from the object and the manual focusing is alot more user-friendly than the 5700's. All the photos I've taken with it so far have been clear and crisp. The swiveling body is also a fantastic feature, and I almost always use it whenever I take photos. It's the best digital camera this side of a DSLR I've ever used.
The only problem for you will be having to change brands, and buying new memory, seeing as Sony continue to use only their Memory sticks. |
