97 v6 engine dies

my 1997 firebird v-6 starts up fine then dies in about 3-5 seconds. Diagnostics says there is a fault in the pcm computer. I was told i would have to take it to the dealer and have it flashed and have the computer re-coded. is this true? can someone please help me????

I have heard of this, so if thats what they told you it is most likely true...I dont think it is very much....
