quick question about my car. Need reply!
I've got an '89 240sx Fastback (so it would be an SE, right?)
Does my car have ABS? |

The fastbacks all came as SE. ABS was an option so check under your hood and see if you have it. Not sure about the S13s, but when I started my car an ABS light would come on.

The only s13 240sx's to get ABS brakes are the HICAS models. Its a performance trim package basically, you get HICAS 4 wheel steering, ABS, and a VLSD. This all comes in one package and u can't get em seperately on different models. Also the HICAS was only availble on DOHC cars, so your car does not to answer your question.
i don't think all fastback's are SE's either. Some are LE's I know for certain, and some are just base models I believe with no designation. SE's usually have moonroof, power locks/windows, alloys etc.... |

to tell if you have ABS-
slam on the brakes as hard as you can in an empty parking lot in the rain |

Thats why I needed to know if my car had ABS or not, because I found different rotors that are for ABS and non-ABS. Wouldnt want to buy the wrong ones... |

ABS came on Hicas optioned cars..... Hicas cars were only availble on DOHC chassis. By telling me you have a 89 240sx, no matter what model or body style, I know you do not have ABS, its as simple as that lol. Im surprised more didn't know that. S14 and WRX drivers hehe

if your having brake problems the first thing to check is brake pad thickness and if your brake rotor is warped, burned(lotta darkish blue circles on it from heavy duty brake use, eg high temps) Gouging in it from brake pads being pushed on the rotor real hard, it will feel like it has grooves going around the brake rotor almost. iF the rotors are still newish usually they can be machined down to a new flat surface again. I would stick with just getting new rotors if that was the case, get some bolt on brembo stock rotors or some Slotted ones, they make some decent quality stock aftermarket rotos for the 240sx.
Axxis has some decent pads if you need new ones, they will give you better brake performance at spirited driving levels. The master cylinder is a metal piece on the drivers side fire wall in the engine bay. It is attached to a booster, the booster is actually attached to the firewall. The master cylinder has a cap on it to check brake fluid, it also has 4 hard skinny metal lines that run from it. have em check fluid if its full to know it doesn't have any leaks other places, also bleed the system of air and this can also help out. |

Thanks guys, good advice for sure!
I'm gonna get myself some brembo cross drilled & slotted rotors, braided stainless brake lines and some good brake pads. Might as well, I figure. I've got the money, and i'm going to need them once I do my swap anyways. |

i've talked to people who have upgraded the stock 240 brakes- they have been disappointed with the results.
i suggest upgrading the front calipers. |

I would love to get the rotora brakes, but they are pricey. Who knows, I can save... |
