to the 1.4 guys

hey wassup,i'm from the england.
i got 1.4 non vtec 98 civic. When i was younger i was really interested in the exterior side of things, but now i've matured and i am increasing wanting more power. Hehe i am tired of gettin my ass kicked. I am really ignorant engine wise (trying to learn), so i was wondering is there any mods that can be done to this engine in particular to gain more power? Or should i consider just selling the car and buying a honda with a vtec engine? ..i just get jealous of the the US members because their insurance is nowhere as sky high as in england so alot of them have pretty powerful cars at a young age.

I also got a 1,4l engine and the problem with this engine is that it's only availeble in the civic in Europe. For this reason the Japanese and US performance part companies forget these engines... meaning that there is nothing availeble for our engines specific (like cams or so). What you can do it the basis stuf, intake, header, exhaust,... but if you do ALL this, you can gain maybe 10hp-15hp. I know some guy is doing a Vtec head swap on a 1,4l, but don't know how this turns out.

What I was thinking of doing (just thinking, nothing final yet) is doing a D16Z6 swap. It's illegal in Belgium, but due to minimum optical diferences I hope the don't see it at the technical control... but it's still a little tricky...

Re: to the 1.4 guys

BTW: if you check the euro forum out at www.civichatchback.com, you can see a thread there about what fits our engines...

thanx for reply goose,
so you might be doing the D16Z6 swap? Is this the easiest swap to do with minimum hassle? If it is a straight swap i may also consider this. By the way, why is this swap illegal in Belgium?

Re: to the 1.4 guys

all swaps are illegal in Belgium, but I chose this one due to the simple fact that both engines (my D14 and the D16) or SOHC. And since we hava an anuel technical control in Belgium who check if the car still matches the VIN, I have to put an engine in that looks like a D14 -> D16. If swaps weren't illegal, I would probable aim a little higher and put in a B18 or something...

I haven't done much research after the swap yet, but it looks pretty straight forward, both are D series, so you don't need other motormounts, with some luck, even the tranny will work. So you just need the engine + ECU + the "kabelboom" (<-don't know the english word for it).

BTW: I just got a price of 900 euro for a D16Z6 with 115000 km. Does anyone know if this is a lot?

hi Goosse,

did your car finally pass the technical control ?
cause i'm thinking of an engine swap on mine, and you know in France it's the same than in belgium, except we "only" have 1 control every 2 years...not every year.

Re: to the 1.4 guys

I didn't do a swap yet. A D16 costs around 1200 euro over here and I can't afford that much money the next year(s).

I have to go to the TC in the beginning of march this year.
