Would an amp give me more bass out of 6 1/2's?

I just bought 2 pairs of the second highest model of Kenwood eXcel 6 1/2's, with a MPV-6022 200 watt head unit and I was expecting a great bass improvement over the stock, but it actually sounds about the same. All other sound frequencies sound much better, just not the bass. Would an amp to drive the speakers give me a lot more bass? Or just make the speakers louder? If I should get an amp, how many watts? Speakers hold 220watts max, so I'd actually only be able to put 170 watts from the amp on them. Would a 400 watt with 4 way bridge do the trick?

you don't watt bass coming out of little 6.5" woofers. That is what subs are for, you'll destroy those speakers if you try to get any kind of low frequency out of them

an amp will just make your speakers sound better and you don't want to put the max wattage that they can hold because that will blow the speakers. you just need a small amp to run those speakers.

get some kenwood 6x9's for your rear shelf. they sound awesome and you can run them off the headunit. i have them in my civic and people think i have 10" subs in my trunk.
