Question Issues installing Remote Start

I have a new Jetta 1.8T and wanted to instakk a remote starter. Any issues people are aware of interms of interfering with security system or others aspects.

Looking for something to self install, any recommedned models? Don't need keyless entry on most of the ones I've seen so far.

Thanks

you will need to use one of your keys (valet probably) and get it taped onto the steering wheel or in dash somewhere that the car can read the chip in it, otherwise it will not start.

Anyone have any other ideas?

It's a pretty easy car to do an install in. I did a few including my '01 Jetta GLS. The only thing is that the car itself is terrible and if you have ANY problems, the dealer will try to deny any warranty work because of the remote starter, stereo, or air freshener.

If you plan to do this, I would really find a good shop to have it installed. If you never have done one, it's kinda hard. I would suggest finding a DEI dealer. They are the best out there. If longest range, warranty, and ease of use are important to you, goto DEI. www.directed.com

Also, get a 555u interface for the factory security system. If you just stick an extra key up near the ignition cyl., it can cause the BCM to lock you out. This can happen even when you try to start it with the key. It "sees" 2 correct codes and messes things up. Sticking a key up there is the old way of doing things and was never really recomended.

Here, just do this. Just go to an ignition coil or fuel injector and use one of the uncommon wires. What I mean is on the injectors and ignition coils there will always be a wire that is the same color on ALL of the injectors or coils. So, use the other wire.
