possible to install remote start on a standard?

is it? i know you would have to always keep ur car in neutral....so i would have to get my e-brake fixed.....just wanted to know if it was possible, and how to go about doing it with our cars since we have to have the clutch down to start the car....any ideas?

fourthgenhatch did his car a little while.

My input: (although nobody asked for it) is i am gonna laugh when all you remote start people start up a thread that goes "oh shit, I left my car in gear and off it went into a pole!"

if im thinking right there should be some kind of electronic switch to determine if your clutch is in so you can start it, if i am thinking right....you should be able to perm. short that switch out (bytaking off the switch and twisting some wires, because i seriously doubt it is NEEDED, but a saftey precaution, and to help not to tear up the tranny and half shafts

Yup did it to my car. Disabling the clutch sensor is no big deal. Reach your hand to the top of the clutch and follow the 2 wires down, find a good place and hack them off, strip the ends of the wires and solder them together, bang no more clutch sensor. I can start my car by just turning the key.

As for the safety of it, it's not safe. However since day one of me driving I always park my car in neutral with the parkingbrake on. Everytime I park I check it, if I'm unsure I won't press the button, that simple. I usually park head in towards a curb so if anything happened it wouldn't hit someone elses car.

well..if you climb under your dash there is a little switch that does engage when your clutch is all the way in like slammed89 said...all you have to do is unplug it from what my resources say...but I wouldn't recommend the whole project..you won't find a shop in the world that will do it because of liability reasons.....if you plan on doing it yourself...put a big sign on your dash that says PUT IN NEUTRAL so you don't forget...

I have remote start in my car.
There is a special order that you have to follow to engage the remote start.
Here's what i do:
1) Arrive at destination
2) ebrake up (with car still running & clutch pushed in)
3) Put in Nuetral take foot off clutch
4) Turn off key ( car will keep running )
5) Get out of the car close the door (car turns off when door closes)

if i dont do it in that exact order my car will not start with the remote.
Seams 100% safe to me... but is it worth the $$$350+ canadian it cost for me to have it installed ? HELL YA. I live in canada it's freezing up here!!

And the shop that installed mine no longer does remote start on manuals.. My car was one of the last they did.. i got lucky !!

I always park my car head in, put it in neutral, pull the ebrake, let off the clutch, and then take out the key. That what I am positive I left it in neutral.
