Get rid of thoes stupid automatic locking hubs and go buy the manual locking ones. The autos are expensive and they break all the time. I did that to my Push button ranger and no problems. The ranger and the Bronco share the same 4x4 parts. it's just the broncos parts are bigger

Re: no front wheel engage

how difficult is it to replace the auto hubs with some manual hubs. Cause i have a 94 bronco, i got stuck one day in mud, i heard a pop, but couldnt see anything wrong. Do you think it may have been the hubs? How do i check if my 4x4 works?

it was not too difficult to change the hubs out you just need the hubs and the conversion kit. I bought mine stuff at advanced auto parts. You need a special socket but that is at advanced as well. That pop could of been your hubs or just your transfer case going into gear mine pops occanially. As for checking your 4x4. what I did is I pushed the button and drove foward ten feet. By then your hubs should of locked then I cut the wheels hard to the left or right it does not matter. you should feel the front end bind up or something like that. do it on dry pavement and it should do it but be careful and do it slow there is a risk of busting the yokes on your IFS half-shafts

I went with the warn locking hubs. you will need the hubs and tha acuall conversion kit. be prepared to repack your front wheel bearings. Also have a book that will tell you how to properly preload the wheel bearings. Any questions let me know. Also let me know how it goes.

when you get done using four wheel drive to disengage the auto hubs. put it back in 2 wheel drive and drive 10 FT in the oppsite direction that you last drove in four wheel drive. and that will unlock your hubs.

cool, where did you get the warn hubs from? When you repacked your wheel bearings, you went ahead and purchased new bearings? Or did you just grease them? I plan on doing this sometime soon, and i dont want to leave any steps out. Thanks for your info!

Also, when i go to disengage 4 wheel drive, do i drive in reverse?

well I had just replaced the wheel berings like a month ago so I just figued that since it is exposed then might as well repak it. but even if you buy new wheel bearings you need to pak them with wheel bearing grease. normal grease won't take the heat that wheel bearing grease can. I got all my stuff from advanced autoparts, hubs and all. As far as disengaging your hubs. you drive in the oppsite direction that you last drove in four wheel drive. if you drove foward it 4x4 then stopped and shifted into 2 wheel drive. you drive backwards, if you drove backwards in 4x4 then stopped and switched into 2 wheel drive then you need to drive fowards. Thats only for automatic hubs though. No one ever does that and that is half the reason the automatics fail all the time. You don't have to do that with the manuals though. Happy to help

Later

Andy

Thumbs up

Alright, thanks alot guys. I tried the test on flat pavement, and yes the 4wd is engaging, but from the sounds of all the things im hearing, i should replace my auto hubs with some manuals. So i'll get to that as soon as i can. Dont worry i'll keep everyone updated once i get around to doing it. I'll let yall know how it went!

your case is diffrent. The eletric motor on your transfer case is stuck. Here is the real techincal step by step instructions to usually fix it. 1 go find a buddy. 2 have buddy sit in bronco and with the key on push the 4x4 button repeatiadly. 3 while he is doing that get underneeth your bronco with a hammer and gently but firmly tap on the casing of the eletric motor untill you hear it move. The clicking that you hear is accualy the 4x4 computer trying to send signals to that eletric motor, ford accually put a seperate computer just for the push button four wheel drive trucks. 99.9% of the time it works. I can't count how many push button fords I have done like that and worked. Let me know how it goes. If this does not work then you have a bad motor. just need to get a new one.

P.S. That is called the american way. just beat it untill it works
