turbo kit for a 2.5RS???
hey guys, i have a 2000 2.5RS. i've been lookin for turbo kits for it and i'm seeing them all for about 3 grand and above. i know i need a new intake and exhaust manifold, fuel system, all the pipings, possibly new piston's if i wanna run some decent boost, anything i'm missing or do ya know of any other kits? would it be cheaper to get a big 16G turbo and get custom stuff? THANKS

Why such a big turbo? You'd be quicker with something small. No lag and all the power the stock internals can handle. Something like a T25 at 6-7 psi should have you killing stock WRX's.

i was thinkin about a smaller turbo like you said, but i would still need a new intake and exhaust manifold and possibly a new fuel system. but i like the fact i can run stock pistons right??

Yeah, for a little while anyways. I'm building a kit with a T25, and even after I get low comp pistons, I'll still keep the T25 for a while. Later down the line I'll change to a (regular) 16G.

All the complete turbo kits ive seen have been around $3000. Does anybody have any suggestions of cheaper sites?

There are non-intercooled kits for $2200-ish. If you want a complete kit for less than that you'll probably have to buy it used.

Well, there's the AVO Stage 1 turbo kit, that you can get at Rallitek.com and I-M-Racing.com, and probably some other sites. Here's the description for it:
"Includes: Garrett water cooled ballbearing turbo, top mount bar and plate intercooler, sequential blow off valve, stainless steel up pipe, stainless steel downpipe with a high flow catalytic converter, pre-programmed LINK engine management electronics, stainless braided oil lines, power air filter and intake pipe, hood scoop ducting, High quality hoses and fittings and instructions. The kit has had extensive dyno tuning to ensure driveabilty in all conditions. The power increase is 75% over a stock car. Dyno tested 212hp@wheels. Local Installation and tech support are available. (Requires upgraded clutch, includes all needed parts/hardware and full color installation instructions)" There are also the turbo kits that Forcedairtech.com sells. Their Stage 1 kit sells for $2,995. They also go all the way up to a Stage 4 kit. You can also purchase Forced Air's kits from KastlesKorner.com/store/. The Stage 1 kit on KastleKorner.com sells for... Ok, I guess their site is down right now. Anyway, here's the description for the ForcedAirTech Stage 1 kit: "The Stage I Turbo Kit for the Impreza RS 2.5 and Impreza 2.2L comes with a Stage3/TO4E Turbo. This is a 5 PSI system with about a 60-80 HP gain and 2 seconds faster in the quarter mile. There isn't any lifting of the engine and it will install in a weekend. This turbo charger is capable of supporting 500 hp. Price on the kit is $2995. The Kit Includes: Turbo: TO4E Turbo Piping: An up pipe (2 1/8 inch) and down pipe (2 1/2 inch) including a 2 1/2 inch high flow catalytic converter section which includes 2 O2 sensor ports is included. Manifold: The pressure side manifold from the Turbo to the intake manifold and the air intake manifold to the Turbo Charger. Oil Lines: Oil supply lines to the Turbo and the Turbo oil return line. The passenger side valve cover is included on all the second generation 2.5 L engines for easy installation. Fuel Pump: Walbro 255 Engine Management: RRFPR, a voltage clamp (for speed density equipped cars) and a piggy back computer system to control ignition timing. Gauges: A boost gauge, and a digital air fuel mixture gauge. BOV & Wastegate: A High Performance Tial Sport Wastegate and a high performance sequential blow off valve. Intake: Cold Air K&N Filter Instructions: All of the necessary hardware and full color photo instructions to install the kit. All of our kits contain everything to Turbo Charge your vehicle. The only thing that the customer would have to supply is a minimum of a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system from the catalytic converter and back. Where as the factory exhaust is much too small for Turbo applications." Well, there ya go. I hope that helped some.

Re: turbo kit for a 2.5RS???
WOW those are some really compete turbo kits, I think I might get one if I can find a 2.5rs for 6k that way i can still buy wheels and exhaust as well as the turbo. NICE! I seriously doubt it but does anyone know of any cheaper turbo kits?

I just found a decent kit at: http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...ec_subaru.html
Its a smaller turbo but it brags for a lot of HP gain for the EJ25, ya guys think 74k miles is too many miles to turbo? |

Guys... I shouldn't need a new ECU if I get a turbo kit, right? The kit has the turbo, intercooler, bov, and all the pipings and wireings, and I know that I'll need new pistons and a new fuel system if i wanna run more boost, but ECU?? help is appreciate....THANKS

you would need an ECU if you were to upgrade the fuel system
welll at the very least you would require the use of a piggyback like the APEXi SAFC, and i think it would be a very good idea to get one with a turbo kit, unsure if its completely needed |

You'll need an intercooler upgrade too. Get a thermoelectric one, good up to 700hp, from boykin automotive. contact [email protected] for pics and specs.

Re: turbo kit for a 2.5RS???
The stock pistons should be fine, remember your engine goes diesel at 15:1. Just do the math, one atmospher, 1:1 = 14.7 PSI. That is correct isn't it? For more boost you need waste gates, and boost controllers.
