DPFE Check Engine Code
My sister owns a 1999 Grand Marquis.
Her car started throwing a CEL. The code was... blah... ok I lost the code, but I think it was P014 - DPFE Upper Hose Blocked or Disconnected. I'm thinking that this is simply the DPFE sensor gone bad, but just wanted to verify that here. I was able to clear the CEL by resetting the ECU which only worked for about a week, the CEL is now back, but with a rough idle. Sounds pretty typical of a bad DPFE sensor. What do you guys think? ALSO... there's a light ticking comming from the rear passenger side of the motor. The ticking is only noticible while the motor is under load, under acceleration... a.k.a giving it gas while it's in gear. I thought maybe "lifter tick" but I always thought lifter tick was constant, not just under acceleration. |

DPFE Code
The code has a diagnostic routine associated with it that has to
be followed. "Replace DPFEGR sensor" is several steps down the tree. Replacing this $100+ sensor first without following the initial steps of the diagnostic tree would be like skipping the first 10 rungs of a ladder. I had the same code you did on my 2001, the technician followed every step in the routine and the problem did turn out to be a bad DPFEGR sensor. He replaced it, problem gone. It happens frequently enough that there's a technical service bulletin out on it. Provided that below. Hope it helps. Mike Emissions - MIL ON/Possible DTC's/Driveability Issues Article No. 03-22-3 11/10/03 DRIVEABILITY - STREAMLINED DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES WITH MIL ON AND DTCS P0401, P0402, P1400 OR P1401 - ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE RUNS ROUGH, LACKS POWER, SURGE, POOR FUEL ECONOMY FORD: 2000-2002 TAURUS 2001-2002 CROWN VICTORIA, FOCUS, MUSTANG 2001 EXPLORER USPS 2001-2002 E SERIES, ESCAPE, EXPEDITION, EXPLORER SPORT TRAC, EXPLORER SPORT, F-150, RANGER, WINDSTAR 2002 EXPLORER LINCOLN: 2001-2002 TOWN CAR MERCURY: 2000-2002 SABLE 2001-2002 COUGAR, GRAND MARQUIS 2002 MOUNTAINEER This article supersedes TSB 03-6-1 to update service procedures, labor operations and part information. This may be caused by an intermittently functioning Tube-Mounted Delta Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) Sensor (Figure 1). Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
That car is know for having loud fuel injectors. Sounds like
a ticking sound under load. It's a possibility. Quote:

Re: Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
Hey, Thanks for the info. That will help for future reference.
The car has since been fixed for exactly that problem, DPFE Sensor, but I'm sure I'll be referring back to this article. The "ticking" actually wasn't as bad after it was fixed although it's still there. :: shrugs :: Thanks again. |

Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
My wife's 2002 Sable is having a similar problem. Rough idle on startup and "Check Engine Light" flashing. Does this vehicle need a special diagnostic tool to read the engine codes? If so, where would I get a good one and about how much do they cost? Thanks

Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
I took the car to AutoZone and they got an error code that indicated a misfire on one of the cylinders. I checked and replaced the spark plugs. The old ones were quite worn. The car has only about 45000 miles on it. Seems odd to see such wear (on all the plugs) with so few miles. I replaced the plugs and have had no problem since.

Re: DPFE Code
I have a 2002 Tarus with a P0402 code. I changed the EGR valve and EGR senor. After each I disconnected the battery to reset the light. But the light keeps going back on.
The car has been running smooth but I can't pass inspection. Any Help? Thanks Steve Quote:

Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
I changed both the EGR valve and sensor and light continues to come back on?
Any other ideas outside of paying someone 300 -800 dollars??? |

Re: DPFE Check Engine Code
Is it safe to replace this part myself on a 2002 ohv (vulcan) (as in it won't cause more problems)? I don't want to mess up a pressurized system...
