Fuel Filter

Hi all! new to the board.
I have a 2002 Tahoe 4dr 4wd LT.
it has 32k on it. I am trying to do the 30k service myself. According to the book, I need to replace the fuel filter. Should I stick with a GM filter, or is there a better aftermarket?

Any tips on the replacement?

I am fairly mechanical. I work on my Jeep Wrangler a lot, but overall I would say it is less complicated than the Tahoe.

thanks from a newbie!

Jim

Re: Fuel Filter

The fuel system is under high pressure...about 60-65 psi.......I wrap a rag around the fitting as I loosen it to catch the fuel spray.
Replacing the filter is pretty much straight foreward.
I would use the GM or a high quality name brand filter.

fuel filter

The fuel filter should be on left side of truck above frame. You should let the pressure drop over night and then crack line open in the morning with a rag around it to prevent spray. Good luck.

2003 tahoe fuel filter

What's up with 2003 5.3 Tahoe v8 vinZ (alternate fuel) tahoe?
I could only find the fuel filters at the dealer ~20$ and I was told I needed some "odd" tool any thoughts on what that is about....

Re: Fuel Filter

Ok here's the deal on the 2003 (Z) vin Fuel filter. I just changed mine. I also did have to buy the filter from GM. You will need a special tool as standard fuel line disconnects will not work. It's a $40 piece of plastic that looks like a fuel line disconnect however finding this tool is next to impossible. i found the number in my Service Manuals which bought from Helm Inc. It's a J something. You can only buy it from this place. http://www.spxkentmoore.com/
You have to call the number and give them the tool # you want. I will post the number in the morning when I get home from work so you can buy one if you want. Otherwise the dealer will have to change your filter for you as there is no other way to do it.

Here is the part # as promised to the above mentioned web site. It is "J-46363 Fuel Line Release Tool"
Hope this helps.
