Question MR2 tail conversion

I have a friend with an older MR2 (same body as the most recent one). He would like to know where he can pick up some of the newer tails (quad-light-thingie/JDM thingie... I think). I am curious myself to help him out. Any ideas?
Also, has anybody done this? Would you have any advice or tips regarding this conversion?

Yeah, I noticed that the install is a bit involved.
Do you have to do some work on the body itself?
Thanx...

No not really just behind the taillights. there isnt enough room for the newer lights to fit.

all it really involves is test fitting it seeing where there isnt clearance and using a ballpine hammer to dent the metal back.

when you replace the inner cover you wont be able to tell the differance.

What did you do about the trunk lock? I've never heard of anyone fixing it so it can still be used. Do you just rely on the trunk release from inside, then?

this site has complete parts info/install instructions:
http://users.ev1.net/~sturgeon/car/mr2/howto.htm

the 94+ tails can be had at www.partznet.com for about $400. they have group buys pop up every now and then on the mr2 message board...

the trunk lock cylinder is shorter on the 91-93's, so you won't be able to use that. you can purchase a longer lock cylinder with or without the factory anti-theft option (instructions on setting lock pattern is also on the site). not having it won't affect operation of the interior trunk release, as 11secmr2 pointed out.
