'91 b16 CRX or '92 Celica ST with 3SGTE?
Which would you rather have? I love the b16, but the 3SGTE is a pretty robust engine...

Re: '91 b16 CRX or '92 Celica ST with 3SGTE?
I am not a toyota guru, what is the 3SGTE? Is that the motor that came in the all-trac turbo celica's? Or is that the newer celica motor? That might help some people make up their minds...

It's the motor from the MR2 turbo and one of the celica's. I'm not sure which. It makes 200 bhp, however, and can be tuned much higher than that. I'm still trying to find a price on it, however.

Any Toyota seems to cost an arm and a leg and three fingers to even fix, let alone, do any mods to.

Really? I've never heard that before. I think I need to do a little more research. Unfortunately, people in the Toyota forums aren't very talkative especially Celica owners.

from what i understand, they made the all trac in america on 2 consecutive generations of the celica. The last one to have the turbo motor was the last style to have flip-up headlights.
The all trac is a pretty rare car to begin with, and i assume sourcing any kind of parts is going to be tough. I've also heard that the all-trac motor isnt a very easy motor to tune.... Based on availability of parts, and just general ease of tuning, the honda is by far the better choice...the b16 probably has the widest market of any japanese motor. So I'd say the rex.

Thanks for the info. The last year for the flip-up headlights was '93, and that's too old for me anyway. With the CRX, I can swap in the JDM b16a Sir II from the '99-00 Si and have a much newer engine that revs higher anyway. Not as much torque, but what do you expect; it's a Honda.

well, in my openion the big question you have to ask is if you perfer fwd or rwd, least that was the question i had when i debated to make plans for an ef8 or ae86 which were compeditors of each other for a short time.

depends on what year celica you get. if your going front wheel drive i reccomend the honda, honda has been doing it for a lot longer, and has more experience w/ the suped up fwd the only reason i would ever go toyota is if i were getting an older rwd toyota. toyota enthusisists perfer rwd. honda has only recently created rwd and it kick ass.
if you go toyota go mr2 or rwd celica. but that's just my openion. feel free to wait for more.
