My haynes manual does not list any such sensor in the wiring diagrams, but it seems it must be there because of the intelligent shift light. The light never comes on in neutral or 5th, so it must have a switch.... right?
Any help is much appreciated.

It doesn't HAVE to be there. There could be something else it is doing in order to get that reading. What I do is make sure that I hook up the parking brake wire then install a motion sensor. The sensor is the kind used on alarms that trigger when the car is being jacked up to either have the wheels stolen or be towed. That way, if you leave it in a gear then remote start it, the motion sensor will pick up the movement then stall the car.
To date, never seen a MT vehicle with a neutral switch other than a motorcycle.
