VW GTIs go at it!!!

My friend has a 2000 VW GTI VR6 with just greddy exhaust(not sure on which type), and we saw this 20th anniversary GTI that we knew was a 1.8T. So we cruise up next to it, and it pulls ahead and onto the highway. My buddy pulls on behind him, and he punches it. We pull on the guy till about 80 or so, then he just starts walkin away from us. After pulling about 6 or 7 cars on us, he slows down for us to catch up, and then my buddy punches it from about 45 and goes all the way up to about 110, with the same result. He backs off, and we get in front of him and exit. He follows, and we just basically pull a u-turn back onto the highway, with him right behind us. We pulled about 4-5 cars and kept that distance till about 80, when this guy just starts catching us, and at about 120, he flys past us. So we follow the guy for a little while, then realize that he is gonna be at the autocross event that our school was having that day, so we turn off.

About half an hour later, he pulls up, and we walk over to talk to him. He said that all he had done to his car was a new intake pipe. I was surprised that his 1.8T could catch my buddys 2.8, but he had no problem with the top end of that car.

Does anyone know what those 1.8Ts are running in the 1/4?

the 1.8t's run low 15's stock, and take pretty well to simple bolt-ons.

w/ a chip alone, the car runs high 14's, so...they're pretty quick lil cars (especially top end)

The VR6 was a 5 sp and the 1.8T was a 6 sp because it is the 20th anniversary.
