1. When cruising in Overdrive, I tramp on gas and there is some light to moderate pinging till the trans. shifts into an eaiser gear. When above 2000 rpm I can bring the engine as fast or slow as I want and there is no engine knock at all. Just seems to happen under load below 2000 rpm
I replaced wires (off brand), coil packs (bosch), and plugs (Autolite) all with in the last 30K mi. Should I replace them all again with AC Delco it seems to be the best bet before I bring it to the dealer. Also, this time I'm going to replace the PCV. Can a bad EGR be the culprit also? 2. When taking off at a stop light both the emergency brake warning light and chime comes on then goes off after a few seconds. The emerg. brake lever is in the correct position of course when driving. Thanks Scott. |

Re: Engine knock & emerg. break questions 1994 Ultra
Do you have your owners manual handy? If you do read the subject on gasoline!! The owne's manual will state that a slight ping is normal!! Engines are designed to run lean for gas mileage reason and others. But on yuor engine you have knock sensors that monitor pinging and adjust the timing for it so it is normal to hear it, it is not normal to get a loud knock.
Try adding some brake fluid to your master cylinder, that will take care of your brake light. Have your brake system checked out for leaks and low pads.

if your car is the super charged version the run 93 octane. the gas quality today is terrible and 87 is really less than it says it is. Autolites on that motor is a NO NO! ac delco plugs only. they have different heat ranges that will cause a knock for sure. my 91 has a similar sound to it once the converter locks up doing around 40 or so and when you give it gas for a second it makes a knocking or ringing sound. that is my TCC solinoid in the tranny that is sticking and needs to be replaced, Not any time soon though. i would start with the tune up again with AC delco stuff. if that doesnt help much myabe try your fuel pressure regulator. it could be getting slow asnd not adjusting the fuel rate in time. hope that helps.
