Starter for 528i

Hey guys
I just got a 1981 BMW 528i. It is a really great car and haven't had any problems so far. On Thurdsay, i tried to start the car but it wouldn't even roll. My friends say it is a starter problem and may need to get a new starter -- I am not really sure where to go to get this part that I hear may be expensive - any thoughts anyone?

A starter can cost you like $300, test it first. Unplug the small plug that goes on the starter, connect a spare wire to the positive post on the battery and then connect it where you unplugged the wire on the starter.
