Ideas on how to drain my gas tank?
I need to drain the gas tank on my 95 Jimmy so I can replace the fuel pump. I was hoping to find a line in the engine compartment to disconnect and run a line to a storage tank. Then I could turn on the key and let the fuel pump empty the gas out. Problem is, I can't seem to find the fuel line at the motor. Any suggestions? I can see the connections at the top of the tank...any ides which hose is the output? Maybe I could let the fuel pump drain it right there? Any chance there's a drain plug on the bottom of the tank?

Re: Ideas on how to drain my gas tank?
You will have to remove the fuel filter and drain it there..this will also require jumping the relay or the fuel pump prime connector to keep the pump running.
Easiest way is to stick a hose down the filler neck and siphon the gas out that way.

Why replace your fuel pump if you expect it to pump out the gas to empty the tank? I also have to empty a 86 Jimmy tank, I think, even tho I can hear the pump running there is no gas coming our at the carb. I will try replacing the fuel filter first--just in case that is blocking the gas. Let me know what you suggest.

Re: Ideas on how to drain my gas tank?
i would just drive it until it's as close to empty as you can get it (without leaving yourself stranded somewhere) then it will be light enough to drop down, saves getting covered in fuel too. Now i'm thinking your going to reply with "the truck doesn't run that's why i have to change the pump" in which i would reply with "i think your on the right track of either pulling off the hose at the filter, lower it below the tank, and wait till it empties...or using the broken fuel pump to empty it". I just saved two posts with that answer....damn i'm good!
hope that helped some.

Re: Ideas on how to drain my gas tank?
is it carb or fuel injected? carbs have 'puller' pumps that pull the gas from the tank, the pump is on the block and runs off a cam lobe, while fuel injection has 'pushers' that push the gas from the tank
