Gears, exhaust, pullies, gears, some sticky tires... Did I mention gears?

That pretty much sums it up. Gear are # 1 in any case, and the juice will be a quick bang for the buck!

Changing your gear sto 3.73's will make your car accelerate quicker but kill a lil top end. So in the end quicker 1/4 mile times but you won't be doing 140+ on the highway.

Re: 1999 mustang gt conv help!!!!!!!

Keeping to the sane side of things, what is the real purpose of doing 140 mph on the freeway anyway. Right, there's not!

Uhhh.......that's incorrect GTStang. I know higher gear ratios do kill top end theoretically.......BUT.......up to 4.10's are pretty good for keeping the 4.6's in a better power band range helping 4th and final drive give you more pull. I.E. , if you take a stock 4.6 with the stock 3.27's, and run it against an identical car with 3.73's, The car with 3.73's will out-run the stock Mustang with 3.27's at top end ! I guarantee ya! With the 3.27's, you'll run out of horsepower before you redline.......

Re: Re: 1999 mustang gt conv help!!!!!!!

Just a side note.
Higher gear ratios=lower numerical number
Lower gear ratios=higher numerical number
I.E. 3.73:1 is a lower ratio then 3.27:1

Yes you will pull better from 65-90,90-110mph etc.., I didn't argue that but the bottom line is you have now especially with 4.10's given up the maxium speed of your car. Yes there is a point where you don't have enough HP to overcome the resistance but I'll tell you right now with 4.10's you running out of gear before you are running out of HP.
