Blower motor good, but fan switch doesn't
Hi.
I'm a newbie with hopefully a fairly easy question. I've got a 1985 Cutlass Supreme. The heater fan on/off/speed control won't make the blower work. When I run 12 volts directly to the blower motor, it works fine. I can't seem to find a fuse for the fan. My question is, is there in fact a fuse somewhere for the blower or will I have to tear into the switch or wiring? Appreciate any assistance. Regards, crtolds. |

I figured this out, so I thought I'd post the solution in case anyone else encounters the same issue.
I went down to the auto parts and looked at a wiring diagram in an Olds manual. It showed a relay in the blower circuit, so I figured it would more likely be that than a switch. Went home and dug around and finally found the relay under the hood not far from the blower. I identified it by the purple wire in the small harness connected to the relay, which matched the one going to the blower. I removed the relay and gave it several light whacks with the rubber covered handle of a hammer and reinstalled it. The blower now works fine. This car has only been driven about 4000 miles in the past 13 years so I can understand why the relay was stuck! Perhaps someone will find this information useful. Regards, crtolds. |
