Unhappy 90 Accord Speaker Installation

I just purchased Infinity 9603i 6X9's to replace the factory speakers, but I'm running into a snag. The bottom of each speaker hits the bars that control the trunk opening and closing. I thought about putting a thin piece of plywood to "shim" them out, but I'm not sure if plywood is the best material to use? I also thought about just removing those bars for my trunk, but I think that is last resort

Re: 90 Accord Speaker Installation

don't remove those bars, they are what hold your trunk lid up when you open it. I think the best thing to do is make a like a box type thing out of wood. just leave it open in the front and back, and make it high enough to where the speaker's magnet just misses the trunk springs, does that make any sense?

Re: Re: 90 Accord Speaker Installation

i have a friend that had the same problem in his accord. what he did was cut out a peice of plywood that was the same size as the speaker cover and he just screwed that in and then he put the speakers in and then put the cover on. if you wanted to make it look nicer you could probably find some carpet somewhere to match and cover the plywood. everything worked out great on my friends car. hope this helps
