Smile Help me to learn to drive...

hi
feel free to move this if i have posted in the wrong section but i am new here

Basically, i need to learn the basics of driving a car.
such as, which order to start a car, is it clutch to biting point and then the gas or the other way round... which gear should i be in when i approach a junction.... tips for reverse parking...

I could go on forever with a list of questions...

I have started lessons but i find it hard to remember which order to do things, but would feel much better if i could study the order and memorise the rules before i even get in the car.

But believe it or not i cannot find any reference materail anywhere!!!!!

I am totally amazed, i am pretty internet savvy but i have not been able to find any sites on the net or even any such books on amazon that would help me with the simple questions i have..

If any of you guys know any web links or recommend any books that will help with the initial stages of driving i would be really grateful...

cheers

Right pedal = accelerator; middle pedal = decelerator; left pedal = clutch-defrictioner. For directional control you have the steerage wheel, which is mounted right in front of you. To your right you have the handbrake, which acts upon the rear internal expanding brakes, and the gear selection wand.

Step one: pull the choke lever halfway back, with your left foot push the clutch-defrictioner all the way to the floor, and using our right hand turn the ignition on, turn the key one more notch further to engage the starter motor - the engine should begin combustion, after 15 to 30 seconds push the choke lever all the way forward.

Step two: using your right hand, manipulate the gear selection wand so as the transmission is engaged in the first gear (your left foot is still pushing the de-frictioner firmly!) release the handbrake with your right hand. Then very slowly lift your foot off of the de-frictioner, simultaneously, slowly push your right foot up against accelerator pedal. You are now in motion.

Step three, should you encounter a traffic signal showing a red light, lift your foot off of the accelerator, and use your right hand to fully depress the hooter located on the steerage wheel. If light refuses to change to green, move right foot to decelerator pedal, and simultaneously press in both the de-frictioner with your left foot, and the decelerator with your right foot. Car should come to a stop.

In event of emergency, such as decelerator failure, attempt to use the hand brake, if this is also in failing, bail out of the automobile, using hands and arms to protect head and face.

Re: Help me to learn to drive...

ok chill for a sec, 2stroke bloke u got the right idea, but i know alot about cars, i am in like 4 blocks of automotive this year @ high school and ur prettymuch confusin me, ok there is 2 ways to drive, if u have a manual choke, get the person who owns the car to show u how to use it with that car, next put the car in neutral, ie the shifter should move freely from the left to the right, next press in the CLUTCH PEDAL with your left foot, the clutch is the pedal on the left, next turn the key till it starts, once it is started u can slowly bring your foot off the clutch with the car still in neutral, let it warm up for atleast 30 seconds the longer the better within reason, next press the clutch back in with your left foot, put your right foot on the gas pedal, if your car is idling at 1000 rpm i would sijest that you bring it to 1500-2000rpm and hold it there as you let the clutch out, and as you do this try to hold your rpm at the 2000 rpm, doing this will decrease your chances of stalling, get good at this on a flat surface so that you don't start rolling for a reason other than the clutch being engaged, once you get to know the feel of the car and where the clutch poiunts are you can start to let the clutch out before you get to the gas pedal, this will help for going up hills, but remember the longer you have your foot part way on the clutch pedal the more you wear out the clutch plate, and they can get VERY expensive to replace, depends on the car and size they can range from 200$ to 2000$ so try to ride the clutch as little as you can, unless you are driving a car of a person who you do not like very much, in that ase ride it as much as you can lol, once you have gotten a good solid 5-10 starts in a row without stalling it you will start to get the hang of it, two things you have to remember though, watch your rpm, do not get them too high before letting the clutch out and bring the clutch out slowly the first time after that you will be fine oh and don't worry about downshifting untill you get the hang of the rest of it, brakes are alot cheaper to replace than clutches, not to mention alot easier too have fun
