Question Turbo Instalation Possible?

I am wondering if you guys think it is possible for an inexperienced person to install a turbo on their own. Time is not relevant considering I would spend as long as it takes, and go slow to not mess it up. The only thing I have heard is that you need the right tools but thats about it. You can pick up any tool you need from a autoparts store right?
thanx for any info
Bc

Are you talking about a custom kit or a prebuilt kit that comes with everything you need for you car?
If it is the prebuilt kit then I would say yes it would be possible to install it yourself but I would have an experienced person tune it after the kit is installed and working.

Craftsman all the way!!!!

Yes, I too think that if time was no issue and you had the patience, then an inexperienced person could tackle it. If you come to a road block then come on here and post the question or find it in the archives.

You have to have some confidence in fabricating things and etc like the oil supply and return uyou have to drill a hole in your oil pan and put in a fitting etc. If you are comfortablr with it then try it. Actually get the kit take everything out to hte car and lay evrything out and follow the instructions, but don't actually put the stuff on just look at what it is telling you to do and see if you feel confident enough to tackle it or not.

hey...id say try it urself...im all about tryin stuff by myself....on my bros car we did all the bodywork and sprayed it ourselfs...ill tell u what, it was lookin nice, for, how clueless we were with doin bodywork...matter a fact we were so good...we just opened a body shop...just goes to show u....u dont know if u can do it until u try it...

**warning**...what we did is bodywork...what ur doin is alittle more crucial....u should definitly do some serious research before u try it....

If you are installing a kit, its not a big deal. It just requires some patience. If time isn't an issure than just take you time doing it, plus all you really need are basic hand tools. Kits are made to be installed with ease. Now if you are doing a homemade turbo, then thats another story. As for the oil return, take off the pan and bring it somewhere to have the flange welded in. Trust me, if you use the gaskets they give you and bolt it on, it WILL leak sooner or later. Probably sooner than later.

concept turbo car.

Would you like a homemade car which would practicly be a motorcycle. I am thinking of making a 4 wheeled frame and slaping a cheap but good v8 on to it and a seat. basicly a small 4 wheeled motorcycle with one seat and a huge engine. roll bar and side protection with steel bars. no fiberglass frame. I think it would look bad ass. but whats in my head probly looks different than what I've described. I think it would be relativley cheap to weld together a frame and slap a engine on and a seat like a motorcyle.

Re: Turbo Instalation Possible?

I would have to disagree with a few things said. Turbo kits dont take very long, you just need an understanding of how everything in a turbo system works. Some friends and I have done a CRX, a Civic hb, and a del sol, and we are soon going to do an accord and a civic coupe.

Me and a few people have done "weekend" turbo projects, and they have had no problems at all with our homemade kits. Some things that you might need though are: your own welder or a friend with one, some basic tools drill, socket set, oil lines, and a rummage through muffler shop waste bins. There is also the obvious: manifold or rigged up stock manifold(certain ones will work), external wastegate(depending on situation), bov, intercooler, and turbo. We also didnt weld anything on the oil pan, just some jb weld. With all that and we set up a CRX in two nights. It was running great, then he decided he would rather have full exhaust and run it n/a again. He then swapped a B16 and now it isnt running. Should have got a single cam.

Anyway there is my bs on the subject.
