04 Maxima ( Tunable ? )

As a long time honda customer can anyone tell the pro's and con's to the maxima ( looking at the 4 seater 6spd ). One of the questions I have is " Are these cars as tunable as hondas ? " I would like to get better than stock performance at an affordable price , this was one of the main reasons for going honda in the past, but I want to try Nissan now.

the 95-99 maxima is getting more recognition in the aftermarket world.. the 200-2003 is trailing behind.. and for the 04 you'll be lucky to find springs and maybe an intake.. but not much is out there for the 04.

i know the 02-03 ecu codes have been "cracked: so they have ecu upgrades available and i'm sure the 04 will also, very shortly. stillen makes headers for the 3.5, jim wolfe makes cams for it. intakes are available, springs and exhausts and that shit are more or less universal.
but dude i'd stay away from the 6th gen(04+) if you're used to light weight honda's, the 04 is slightly over 3500lsb the 02-03 3.5's are around 3220 and the 95-99 are real light at 2895 depending on your options. i can personally vouch that the 02-03's are awesome as are the older 3.0 4th gen(95-99). i had a weapom-r intake, stillen cat-back exhaust and a y pipe(downpipe) on my 95 5 speed SE and that thing was a bullet. a car that can chirp 3rd gear on 8" wide tires without any clutch/flywheel/pulley mods, is pretty impressive.

BTW i can get my 02 to shrip 3rd with just an intake

When I test drove the car, that was one of my first questions. So, I popped the hood. It's amazingly crowded in the engine compartment. That 3.5 sucks up all the space. I imagine that like the 350Z, for a turbo/SC upgrade it will require a new hood.
